Teaching method

I developed my personal teaching method during more than 15 years of experience and also thanks to my studies of Music Pedagogy and Piano Teaching during my Master in Piano at Livorno's Conservatory.

My teaching method is adapted to the skills and goals of each student. With children who never played an instrument, I aim at a full musical development of the student (not just playing an instrument, but feeling the rhythm, singing, being able to express emotions or images through the improvisation at the piano) and my teaching of technique trains not only the fingers but the movements of wrists and arms too, giving attention to changes of position on the keyboard from the beginning (old schools of piano teaching being mainly based on fixed position and only finger training at the beginning). With adults or already advanced students, I listen and observe them, in order to find out which types of exercise of which repertory can suit them better. I teach in a classical way, through the learning of notes, harmony and written music, but a basic chord theory and arrangement of songs is provided, when the student likes it.
Both with children and adults I aim at creating a joyful experience during the lesson, in which focus is gained in a playful way, finding each time the best practising solutions to technical and musical difficulties. In this way, practising at home becomes not another heavy duty to add to an already busy schedule, but repeating a creative, searching experience, that is never the same.

Books: the use of a method is often suggested in the first years. Later I advice classical pieces to be studied. Also pop or rock songs that the student would like to perform are well accepted, if I think the student can afford them.
